1. Technology overview
Carbon Craft Design Pvt. Ltd. (CarbonCraft) is an Indian design and material innovation startup whose work began in 2016 with biomimicry-based brick research and moved to carbon tile production in Dharwad and Hubli. It turns industrial waste and air pollution into building materials while supporting local artisans, aiming to enable a circular economy in the built environment.
Its MATR technology collects construction and demolition debris and mineral-rich industrial residues, refines them into material blends, combines them with natural aggregates and cures the products at ambient conditions without kiln firing. Products include CarbonCraft tiles, the carbon-negative Deewaar tile, Carbon Mural, wall claddings, bricks and panels; newer geopolymer claddings use recycled quartz waste. Customers are architects, retailers, brands and public projects.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- MATR process: collect, process, build and cure steps convert waste into tiles, bricks and panels.
- Kiln-free curing: products cure at ambient conditions with no energy-intensive firing.
- Deewaar tile: carbon-negative tile using about 1.9 kg of byproducts per square foot.
- Geopolymer wall claddings: ultra-low-carbon claddings using recycled quartz waste and quartz sand.
- Design range: CarbonCraft tiles, Carbon Mural and Wall Series for facades and interiors.
- Certifications: GRIHA, CII Green Pro, third-party EPD, BIS, RoHS and VOC-free compliance.
3. Potential application
Retail brands fitting out stores in Vietnam can use carbon-negative wall tiles to show sustainability commitments. Architects of hotels and offices pursuing LOTUS or LEED can specify kiln-free claddings with EPDs. Construction waste processors could partner to turn local demolition debris into decorative tiles.
4. Benefits
Ambient curing without kiln firing saves energy and reduces emissions compared with fired tiles. Each square foot of Deewaar tile transforms about 1.9 kg of industrial byproducts. Products carry GRIHA, CII Green Pro and a third-party verified EPD, supporting green building documentation. Handcrafted finishes give architects distinctive facades and interiors made from waste.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Fired clay bricks and ceramic tiles are energy-intensive, and rapid urbanisation in South and Southeast Asia generates growing volumes of construction and demolition waste. Vietnam is pushing non-fired building materials and reuse of construction waste, while brands and developers want low-carbon finishes with EPDs for green building certification.
6. Other information
Based in India with activity in Hubli, Dharwad, Mumbai, Goa and Bangalore. Commercial deployments with Good Earth, Subko and Royal Enfield; Adidas used Deewaar tiles in 8 stores across India. In 2025 it opened the Carbon Lab innovation hub in Hubli, and in February 2026 received Technology Development Board support for geopolymer claddings.
