1. Technology overview
CartonCloud is an Australian logistics software company. Development started in 2012 as an in-house system for an Australian chilled freight 3PL, and it became a product company in 2015 on the Gold Coast. It targets 3PL providers, in-house logistics teams and transport companies that still run warehouses and deliveries on spreadsheets or legacy tools.
The cloud platform combines a warehouse management system (WMS) and a transport management system (TMS). The WMS covers real-time inventory, barcode and mobile workflows, lot, batch, serial and expiry tracking, wave, batch and pick-to-tote picking, replenishment, dock management and multi-warehouse operations. The TMS adds route planning, a driver app, electronic proof of delivery and tracking. A 3PL layer provides client portals and rate-card based automatic billing. More than 600 logistics businesses and 50,000 users rely on it, including DHL eCommerce Vietnam.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Inventory control: real-time stock with lot, batch, serial and expiry tracking.
- Picking workflows: wave, batch and pick-to-tote picking with back-ordering and order splitting.
- Mobile scanning: barcode-driven receiving, put-away and dispatch on handheld devices.
- 3PL billing: rate cards by client, service or pallet with automatic invoicing.
- Client portal: customers see their own stock and orders online.
- Transport module: route planning, driver app, ePOD and real-time notifications.
3. Potential application
- A Vietnamese 3PL serving many online brands can manage separate client stock and bill each client automatically.
- A cold-chain distributor can track lots and expiry dates while planning delivery runs in the same system.
- A wholesaler can run its warehouse and own delivery fleet with proof of delivery on mobile.
4. Benefits
- Automatic billing from client rate cards (per pallet, order, distance or custom rule) removes manual invoicing for 3PLs.
- The vendor reports 99% inventory accuracy and an average onboarding time of about 6 hours.
- One system covers both warehouse and delivery, so stock, orders and proof of delivery stay connected.
- Usage-based pricing lets smaller 3PLs pay in line with their volume.
5. Market trends & opportunities
E-commerce growth pushes small and mid-sized 3PLs to replace spreadsheets with cloud WMS that can bill many clients and integrate with marketplaces. In Vietnam and Southeast Asia, fulfilment providers serving online brands need multi-client warehouse software with carrier and storefront integrations at a cost that fits mid-market operators.
6. Other information
CartonCloud became a product company in 2015 on the Gold Coast, raised $1M in 2017, another $1M in 2018 and $12M in December 2021, and opened a regional headquarters in Canada in 2022. It has a 65-person team, onboarding teams for North America and ANZ, and holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
