1. Technology overview
Circulor is a UK-based supply chain traceability company focused on battery and critical mineral value chains. It helps automakers and battery makers prove the origin, responsible sourcing and carbon footprint of materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and graphite.
The platform traces material flows from mines and refiners through cell makers to OEMs, with four levels of assurance ranging from self-declaration to evidence-backed, audited and continuous digital tracing. From this data it generates battery passports aligned with the EU Battery Regulation, with role-based access for consumers, recyclers and authorities. Circulor reports issuing an industrial-scale battery passport for Volvo Cars and works with BMW, Polestar and LG Energy Solution.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Material tracing: Flows of lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite and other materials are tracked from mine to OEM.
- Assurance levels: Data is classed as declared, evidenced, audited or continuously traced.
- Battery passport: Passports follow EU Battery Regulation templates and emerging CEN/CENELEC standards.
- Carbon footprint: Embedded emissions are calculated along the supply chain.
- Access control: Passport data is shown by audience, such as consumers, recyclers or regulators.
- Integrations: REST APIs, ERP/MES connectors and Excel import support supplier onboarding.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese EV and battery pack makers exporting to Europe can issue battery passports for their products. Component and cell suppliers can share sourcing and carbon data with global OEM customers. Energy storage integrators can document material origin for utility-scale projects.
4. Benefits
Material provenance and embedded carbon data are collected once and reused for passports and regulatory reports. Four assurance levels let companies raise data quality step by step with suppliers. Role-based access keeps commercial data private while exposing mandatory passport fields. Open APIs and ERP/MES connectors reduce manual data entry across suppliers.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Under the EU Battery Regulation, EV, industrial and light transport batteries placed on the EU market will need a digital battery passport from February 2027, and US rules on foreign entities of concern also require sourcing evidence. Vietnam is building EV, battery and energy storage manufacturing, so suppliers selling to global OEMs will need passport-ready traceability data.
6. Other information
Circulor is based in the United Kingdom. It works with TIC partners Bureau Veritas and TUV Rheinland, and its earlier platform was documented by the Linux Foundation as using Hyperledger Fabric. In April 2025 it partnered with Powin on battery passports for grid-scale energy storage.
