1. Technology overview
Cloudfarms was founded by Jens Toppenberg and Gregor Raýman and launched in 2013 as a fully cloud-based system for managing and analysing pork production data. It was acquired by BASF in 2020; the operating company, Cloudfarms a.s., is registered in Bratislava, Slovakia, and has a separate US team.
The platform replaces paper sow cards and delayed spreadsheets with mobile data capture in the barn, including offline recording, instant validation, QR code and RFID ear tag reading. Modules cover sow management, wean-to-finish, breeding and multiplication, boar and semen, workflow and alerts, individual animal tracking and field-to-fork traceability. Data refreshes every 20 minutes into dashboards that compare one or many farms.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Sow management: serving, scanning, farrowing, weaning, fostering and a one-click sow card.
- Wean-to-finish: batches, transfers, feed consumption, weighing and sales.
- Mobile app: offline recording, instant validation, QR and UHF, LF or RFID ear tag reading.
- Medicine management: usage, planned treatments and multi-prescription.
- Data analytics: customisable dashboards and over 20 pre-defined reports across farms.
- Traceability and alerts: individual animal tracking, workflow tasks and farrowing alerts.
3. Potential application
- Integrated pig producers consolidating sow and finisher data from many farms into one dashboard.
- Breeding and multiplication farms tracking genetics, boars and semen quality.
- Pork processors requiring traceability of individual animals and medicine use for export markets.
4. Benefits
- Gives managers near real-time production data, refreshed every 20 minutes, instead of waiting weeks for entered reports.
- Reduces manual data entry and correction, freeing staff to focus on the animals.
- Speeds up stocktaking and medicine records across multiple farms.
- Supports welfare and traceability with individual animal histories from breeding to the final product.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Pig production is consolidating into larger multi-site companies that need fast, comparable herd data to control disease, feed costs and labour. Vietnam is one of Asia's largest pork producers and its integrators are investing in high-tech farms after African swine fever, which raises demand for cloud herd management and traceability.
6. Other information
