1. Technology overview
Mitiga Solutions is a Catalan climate risk company that started as a spin-off from Spain's National Supercomputing Center, home of the MareNostrum supercomputer. Led by CEO and co-founder Dr. Alejandro Marti and CTO Dr. Mauricio Hanzich, it helps investors, lenders, real estate owners, energy and infrastructure operators and consultancies assess, report and act on physical climate risk.
EarthScan is built on Mitiga's Signals Engine, which combines CMIP6, CORDEX and Bayesian modelling with supercomputing and AI. Users upload a CSV or connect via API; each asset is geocoded and run through projections from 1970 to 2100 under three IPCC-aligned scenarios. Outputs include hazard intensities, return periods, exceedance probabilities and Climate Value at Risk for hazards such as flood, heat, wind, wildfire and drought, benchmarked against more than 100,000 monitoring stations in 180 countries, with reports aligned to IFRS S2 and ESRS E1.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Asset upload and geocoding: Import a CSV or connect via API to analyse single assets or whole portfolios.
- Climate projections: Simulates hazards from 1970 to 2100 across three IPCC-aligned scenarios.
- Hazard metrics: Intensities, return periods and exceedance probabilities across multiple perils.
- Climate Value at Risk: Estimates financial losses for specific hazards at asset level.
- Benchmarking: Compares risk across assets, sites, portfolios and regions to prioritise action.
- Disclosure reports: Ready-to-share outputs mapped to IFRS S2 and ESRS E1 requirements.
3. Potential application
- A Vietnamese textile or electronics exporter assesses flood and heat risk at its factories to answer EU customers' CSRD questionnaires.
- A sustainability consultancy in Vietnam uses EarthScan to deliver IFRS S2 physical risk sections for listed clients.
- An industrial real estate investor screens candidate sites for drought and flood exposure before acquisition.
4. Benefits
- Turns a list of asset locations into decision-ready climate risk results in minutes, without in-house modelling expertise.
- Links hazards to financial exposure through Climate Value at Risk and exceedance probabilities.
- Generates disclosures aligned with IFRS S2, TCFD and CSRD with full traceability.
- Self-service free trial plus SaaS and API access with adaptive pricing for organisations of different sizes.
5. Market trends & opportunities
IFRS S2 is being adopted by jurisdictions across Asia-Pacific, and Vietnamese exporters supplying EU customers face CSRD-driven requests for climate risk data. Mid-sized companies and consultancies need affordable, self-service tools that produce defensible physical risk assessments without large modelling teams, especially in countries highly exposed to flood, heat and drought such as Vietnam.
6. Other information
