1. Technology overview
EcoNiLi Battery Group was founded in August 2021 and is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It buys and recycles spent lithium-ion batteries, production scrap, shredded batteries and black mass from battery makers, recyclers and collectors, aiming to build central recycling hubs in Asia.
The company runs two plants in the Tasek Industrial Estate in Ipoh, Perak: Factory 1 processes up to 24,000 tonnes a year of scrap batteries into black powder using CE-certified equipment, and Factory 2 is a hydrometallurgical plant taking 12,000 tonnes a year of black mass to recover nickel, cobalt, lithium and manganese. A third, smaller line operates in Dubai. Customers are battery manufacturers, recycling firms, collectors and buyers of battery materials.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Scrap battery intake: buying of spent lithium-ion batteries, production scrap and shredded material.
- Mechanical processing: CE-certified equipment turns batteries into high-quality black powder.
- Hydrometallurgical plant: recovery of nickel, cobalt, lithium and manganese from black mass.
- Black mass purchasing: accepts black mass from other recyclers for refining.
- Logistics support: guidance on packaging, transport and final disposition of waste batteries.
- Multi-site capacity: two Malaysian plants plus a Dubai line for regional feedstock.
3. Potential application
Battery cell and pack plants in Vietnam can sell production scrap or black mass to a regional refiner. Vietnamese battery collectors and pre-processors can secure an offtake partner for black mass. Electronics and e-bike makers can plan cross-border recycling routes within ASEAN.
4. Benefits
Battery producers and collectors in the region get a buyer for scrap batteries and black mass at competitive prices, with support from packaging to final disposition. Local hydrometallurgical refining in Malaysia shortens logistics compared with shipping material to distant refiners. Closed-system processing is designed to meet Malaysian Department of Environment standards.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Southeast Asia is building EV and battery manufacturing in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, and production scrap plus end-of-life packs will grow quickly. Regional refining capacity lets manufacturers keep critical metals in the region instead of exporting black mass, and Vietnam's EPR rules push producers to find licensed recycling routes.
6. Other information
Founded in August 2021; office in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, with two plants in Ipoh, Perak, and a facility in Dubai. Bernama reported in December 2025 that the company received recognition at the ESG Plus Awards 2025 and operates a recycling facility in Perak with capacity of up to 24,000 tonnes of batteries a year.
