1. Technology overview
FlyNex GmbH was founded in Hamburg in 2015 and moved its headquarters to Leipzig, Germany, in 2017. It provides software and services for drone-based data collection, analysis and asset management, and earlier built the Map2Fly airspace app used by more than 100,000 users before launching the integrated FlyNex Platform in 2021.
The cloud platform covers the full drone inspection workflow: flight planning in line with the EU drone regulation using the integrated Drone Harmony mission planner, fleet management of drones, batteries and equipment with automatic flight logs, asset lists mapped by location, automatic upload of imagery through a controller app, AI-based detection of cracks, rust, dirt and spalling, 3D point clouds and orthophotos, and one-click reports. APIs connect results to systems such as SAP and IBM Maximo. Customers include Deutsche Bahn, Deutsche Telekom, 50Hertz, Vodafone and TÜV Rheinland.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Flight planning: Drone Harmony mission planner for complex automated flight patterns, aligned with EU drone rules.
- Fleet management: drones, batteries and equipment in one place with automatic flight logs.
- Asset management: import assets such as masts, antennas or buildings and manage them on a map.
- Data capture: Connect app on the drone controller uploads imagery to the cloud after each flight.
- Vision AI: detection and classification of cracks, rust, dirt and spalling with graphical output.
- Analysis and reporting: 3D point clouds, orthophotos, change comparison and one-click reports.
3. Potential application
- Mobile network operators and tower companies inspecting antennas and masts remotely across thousands of sites.
- Power transmission companies documenting line and pylon condition over time for predictive maintenance.
- Real estate and industrial park managers inspecting roofs and facades without scaffolding.
4. Benefits
- The company reports average savings of 50% in cost and 50% in time for inspection and asset management.
- Remote inspection keeps staff on the ground and lets engineers review assets without travelling to site.
- Imagery is linked automatically to each asset, building a history that supports predictive maintenance.
- Data is GDPR-compliant and stored on German cloud servers, with APIs into SAP and IBM Maximo.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Telecom tower companies, grid operators and property owners are shifting from manual climbs and site visits to drone-based remote inspection backed by AI and central asset records. With rapid growth of 5G towers, transmission lines and industrial buildings in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, operators need scalable inspection workflows that also document regulatory compliance.
6. Other information
Founded in Hamburg in 2015 by four co-founders; headquarters in Leipzig since 2017. Investors in its 2021 round included STIHL, HTGF, TGFS, GPS Ventures and Snowflake Ventures; closed a further funding round in July 2025 for international expansion and AI.
