1. Technology overview
Kunak Technologies SL is a Spanish company based in Orcoyen, Navarra, that designs outdoor air quality monitoring systems for industry, cities and research. Its stations have been deployed in more than 70 countries and are used to control emissions, dust and odour around ports, mines, refineries, wastewater plants and urban areas.
The Kunak AIR Pro measures up to five gases from a menu of 16, plus PM1 to PM10, TSP and meteorological data, using patented plug-and-play smart cartridges that can be swapped as needs change. The lower-cost AIR Lite targets hyperlocal networks. Kunak AIR Cloud adds data validation, baseline correction, alarms, reports and remote calibration, with integration via REST API, Modbus or FTP. Logos shown include BHP, Repsol and Dubai Municipality.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Multi-pollutant station: up to five gases plus PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10 and TSP.
- Smart cartridges: patented plug-and-play gas sensors with 12 to 36 month lifespan.
- AIR Lite: rugged compact station with OLED display for dense hyperlocal networks.
- Kunak AIR Cloud: validation, temperature and humidity compensation, alarms and reports.
- Remote calibration: co-location or remote adjustment to keep data traceable.
- Integration: REST API, Modbus RTU and FTP, with 4G, eSIM, Ethernet and GPS.
3. Potential application
A seaport in Hai Phong can monitor dust from bulk cargo handling and alert operators before limits are exceeded. A refinery or chemical plant can run a fenceline network for H2S, VOC and SO2. Provincial environment departments can densify urban monitoring around traffic hotspots at lower cost than reference stations.
4. Benefits
Swappable cartridges let one station be reconfigured for new pollutants without buying new hardware. Power consumption of 0.08 to 0.55 W and solar operation allow deployment without mains power. Data traceability is referenced to European Directive 2024/2881 and US EPA protocols, and the AIR Pro was named the most accurate multi-pollutant sensor at the Airparif Microsensors Challenge.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Industrial operators face stricter fenceline and fugitive emissions rules and growing community pressure, while cities supplement sparse reference stations with sensor networks. In Vietnam and Southeast Asia, ports, mines, cement plants and industrial parks need verifiable, continuous air data to meet environmental permits and ESG reporting.
6. Other information
Kunak Technologies SL is registered in Orcoyen, Navarra, Spain. It won the XVII SME 2024 Award for internationalisation, the AQE 2024 Best Air Quality Network Monitoring Award for a NEOM buoy project and the DHL Atlas Award 2023, and holds Spain's ENS security certification.
