1. Technology overview

Lithoz is an Austrian maker of ceramic 3D printers and materials founded in 2011 and headquartered in Vienna, with more than 100 employees, four sites worldwide and an export share of almost 100%. It enables manufacturers to produce dense, high-precision technical ceramic parts with complex internal geometries that cannot be made economically by pressing, injection moulding or machining.

Its Lithography-based Ceramic Manufacturing (LCM) printers range from the CeraFab Lab L30 for material development to the CeraFab System S65 and the S320, which has a build area five times larger for serial production, plus the CeraFab Multi 2M30 for combining ceramics, metals and polymers. Lithoz supplies its own materials, including alumina, aluminium nitride, zirconia, alumina-toughened zirconia, silicon nitride, silica-based casting core material and calcium phosphates for bone implants. Customers include Safran Aircraft Engines, Bosch Advanced Ceramics, Sandia National Laboratories and a network of LCM contract manufacturers.

2. Highlighted features & specifications

  • LCM process: lithography-based curing of ceramic slurry yields dense, high-precision technical ceramics.
  • Serial production: CeraFab S320 offers a build area five times larger than the S65 for volume runs.
  • Multi-material: CeraFab Multi 2M30 combines ceramics, metals and polymers in one part.
  • Entry system: CeraFab Lab L30 supports material development and small series.
  • Material portfolio: alumina, aluminium nitride, zirconia, ATZ, silicon nitride, silica cores and calcium phosphates.
  • Medical and dental variants: S65 Medical and materials for implants, earmoulds and orthodontic brackets.

3. Potential application

Semiconductor equipment and electronics suppliers in Vietnam can print alumina and aluminium nitride parts such as insulators, nozzles and cooling plates. Hospitals' partner labs and dental manufacturers can produce zirconia dental parts and calcium phosphate bone scaffolds. Universities and materials institutes can use CeraFab Lab L30 to develop ceramic formulations.

4. Benefits

Lithoz printers produce parts with very fine features, such as a Bosch gas injector with 62 openings and walls as thin as 0.2 mm made at 2,000 units per year. A 380 mm alumina ALD ring printed by partners extended equipment uptime from one to nine months and tripled output. The S320 holds 46 turbine-blade casting cores on one platform, and Lithoz software meets aeronautical traceability requirements, as cited by Safran.

6. Other information

Founded in 2011, headquartered in Vienna, Austria; more than 100 employees across 4 sites, almost 100% export share, ISO 9001:2015 certified since 2016. In 2025 Safran Aircraft Engines installed three CeraFab S65 printers at Gennevilliers for serial production of turbine blade casting cores; other 2025 milestones include the S320 launch at RAPID + TCT and the LithaBite material for orthodontic brackets at IDS. Partners include Bosch Advanced Ceramics and Steinbach AG.
