1. Technology overview
IUNU is a company founded in Seattle in 2013 that applies computer vision and AI to controlled environment agriculture. It helps commercial greenhouse growers replace manual crop registration and guesswork with continuous, plant-level data so they can steer crops, forecast yields and plan labour.
LUNA uses mobile cameras that either run on an aluminium rail at truss level, for leafy greens, herbs, propagation and ornamentals, or mount on existing pipe-rail trolleys to image whole vines of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and strawberries. Images go to the cloud in real time, where AI builds crop growth models, flags issues and feeds yield forecasts, plan-versus-actual tracking and intelligent setpoint control. LUNA Connect links the platform with climate control, ERP and inventory systems through APIs, and LUNA Inscribe handles mobile crop registration.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Rail and roving cameras: mobile imaging along truss-level rails for leafy greens, herbs and ornamentals.
- Trolley mast system: mounts on existing trolleys to image vine crops from fruit to flower.
- Yield forecasting: predicts harvest volumes and schedules labour and harvest.
- Plant balance steering: real-time crop insights and proactive alerts for growers.
- Intelligent setpoint control: adjusts climate setpoints according to crop strategy.
- LUNA Connect: APIs that sync with climate control, ERP and inventory systems.
3. Potential application
- High-tech greenhouse operators in Lam Dong forecasting tomato and pepper yields for supermarket supply contracts.
- Seedling producers counting germination and tracking young plant quality automatically.
- Ornamental and flower growers in Da Lat syncing plant inventory with sales systems.
4. Benefits
- Bushel Boy Farms reported a 500-fold increase in crop registration coverage and 10% lower fertiliser costs.
- Pure Green Farms reported 14% more grams per plant and eliminated a 2% crop loss.
- One operation saved 973 hours per year on germination counts.
- Earlier detection cut a tip burn event from over 14 days of 20% loss to 2 days.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Large greenhouse operators face labour shortages and need consistent yields to meet retail contracts, which is driving adoption of camera-based crop monitoring and data-driven steering. As Vietnam and other Southeast Asian markets expand high-tech greenhouses for tomatoes, melons and leafy greens, operators need tools to manage crops across many hectares.
6. Other information
Founded in Seattle in 2013. Raised USD 20 million in 2025 after an earlier USD 24 million Series B. Technology partners listed include NVIDIA, Microsoft, NASA, Intel and Google. Customers shown include Bushel Boy Farms, Pure Green Farms, Costa Farms and Nature Fresh Farms.
