1. Technology overview
Maisa was founded in 2024 by David Villalón (CEO) and Manuel Romero (CSO) and describes itself as a dual US/Europe-headquartered company. It builds accountable AI digital workers that run complex, regulated back-office processes end to end, addressing the lack of traceability that keeps many generative AI pilots out of production.
In Maisa Studio, business experts define a process by its objective, process knowledge, business rules, controls, exceptions and expected outcome, and connect the applications and data it depends on, including legacy systems. A digital worker then executes the process, powered by Maisa's Knowledge Processing Unit reasoning engine; every step is recorded in a Chain-of-Work log, and failed validations are repaired within the run. Traces from each worker can train a company-owned small language model to run the same process at lower cost. Santander uses Maisa across its main markets.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Maisa Studio: define a process by objective, rules, controls, exceptions and expected outcome.
- Digital workers: execute regulated processes end to end across existing systems.
- Chain-of-Work: a traceable record of every step and decision.
- In-run repair: failed validations are fixed before the next step.
- Company-owned SLM: worker traces train a small model to cut cost per run.
- 1-3-6 delivery: build in week one, pilot by week three, live by week six.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese bank can deploy digital workers for new client onboarding and auto-loan processing. An insurer can automate first notice of loss claims intake and policy renewals. A manufacturer can automate supplier invoice matching and maintenance work orders.
4. Benefits
Business experts can build automations for regulated processes without developer support. Every action is recorded for audit, which suits banks and insurers. The company reports more than 50 million production runs, a customer cutting cost per job 14 times by moving to a company-owned small language model, and Indigo Park putting four finance processes into production in three months.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Banks and insurers want AI agents for back-office work but need explainable, auditable execution to satisfy regulators. Accountable digital workers that log every step fit this need, relevant to Vietnamese and Southeast Asian financial institutions automating onboarding, claims and reconciliation.
6. Other information
