1. Technology overview
Muir AI is a Seattle-based startup founded in 2022 by Harris Chalat and Peter Williams, who met at MIT and previously worked at SpaceX and Amazon. It models global supply chain emissions and cost for companies with complex, high-emitting supply chains, so that procurement and sustainability teams can find reduction opportunities without lengthy supplier data collection.
The platform builds a model of each product as a graph of materials, manufacturing steps and supply chain, breaking goods into material composition, mapping likely sourcing countries and estimating emissions at each step, and fills gaps where primary data is missing. On top of this it offers PCF reporting, should-cost modelling with component-level cost breakdowns, and tariff analysis with HTS codes and tariff exposure for any product or bill of materials. It targets electronics, industrial and chemical companies, and its logos include Weber, MilliporeSigma, Essity, Amazon and SAP.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Product modelling: graph of materials, manufacturing steps and supply chain for each product.
- PCF reporting: product carbon footprints and new reduction initiatives.
- Supply chain emission estimates: Scope 3 estimates built from basic procurement data.
- Should-cost modelling: component-level cost breakdowns and scenario modelling.
- Tariff analysis: HTS codes and tariff exposure for any product or bill of materials.
- Data gap filling: models missing primary data and material alternatives.
3. Potential application
An electronics component maker in Vietnam can produce product carbon footprints requested by US or European customers. A manufacturer can compare the cost, carbon and tariff exposure of sourcing parts from Vietnam versus other countries. A chemical or packaging producer can estimate Scope 3 emissions from its purchase data.
4. Benefits
Teams can get supply chain emission estimates from simple procurement data instead of waiting for supplier surveys. The same product model answers cost, carbon, material substitution and tariff questions, so sustainability and procurement work from one dataset. The platform shows PACT conformance, supporting product footprint exchange with customers, and offers free sign-up.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Electronics, industrial and chemical buyers increasingly request product carbon footprints in the PACT format, while tariff changes push companies to rethink sourcing countries. Vietnam has become a major electronics and component manufacturing base, so its suppliers face both carbon data requests and tariff-driven sourcing reviews from US customers.
6. Other information
Founded in 2022 and based in Seattle. Raised a 3.25 million US dollar seed round led by Base10 Partners with Madrona Venture Labs and Soma Capital. Named a winner of the World Economic Forum UpLink challenge on AI Innovation for Resilient Supply Chains, run with Accenture.
