1. Technology overview
Myriota is an Australian satellite IoT operator headquartered in Adelaide that describes itself as the telco for global field intelligence. It provides satellite and hybrid satellite-cellular connectivity, hardware, development tools and a partner ecosystem so that sensors and trackers in places without mobile coverage can still report data. Its site cites a world-first transmission of IoT data directly to a nanosatellite in 2013.
The company runs two services. UltraLite is a satellite-only network for long-term, low-power sensing with small payloads, quoted at 10 years of field life on two AA batteries. HyperPulse, launched with Viasat in February 2025 and generally available since December 2025, is a 3GPP 5G narrowband non-terrestrial network (NB-NTN) service on Viasat's geostationary L-band network, managed through Myriota's hybrid network platform for near-real-time tracking and monitoring. Enablement devices include the AssetHawk tracker with BLE gateway and FlexSense for remote sensing.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- UltraLite network: satellite-only service for low-power sensing with small data payloads.
- HyperPulse 5G NB-NTN: 3GPP-based satellite service for regular, near-real-time reporting.
- Hybrid network management: one platform handles satellite and cellular connectivity together.
- AssetHawk tracker: rugged asset tracker with an integrated BLE gateway.
- FlexSense: ready hardware for remote sensing of tanks, water and equipment.
- Developer support: development tools, certified hardware and integration support for partners.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese water utility or irrigation company can read meters and reservoir levels in mountainous provinces without mobile coverage. Rubber, coffee or aquaculture farms can monitor pumps and tanks in remote areas. Logistics and fishing operators can track containers, vessels or equipment along coasts and islands.
4. Benefits
Remote assets such as tanks, pumps, water meters and livestock can be monitored where no cellular network exists. UltraLite devices are quoted to run about 10 years on two AA batteries, which cuts site visits. HyperPulse follows 3GPP standards, so it works with standard low-power cellular chipsets such as Nordic Semiconductor's, avoiding proprietary radios. One management platform covers both satellite and cellular links.
5. Market trends & opportunities
3GPP Release 17 brought satellite links into the cellular standard, so ordinary IoT chipsets can now fall back to satellites. Agriculture, utilities, mining and logistics need data from areas that terrestrial networks will never cover economically. In Southeast Asia, plantations, islands, offshore sites and mountainous water catchments face the same coverage gaps.
