1. Technology overview

Notabene, Inc. was established in 2020 in response to FATF's Crypto Travel Rule, which requires exchanges, wallet providers and financial institutions to exchange originator and beneficiary data on crypto transfers. It now positions itself as a trust layer for regulated digital asset and stablecoin payments, with 2,300+ institutions in its network across 110+ jurisdictions.

Notabene Transact automates pre-transaction decisions: it identifies and screens counterparties, runs VASP due diligence, exchanges Travel Rule data across multiple messaging protocols and applies jurisdiction-specific rules before funds move. SafePII escrows encrypted customer data. The stack also includes the open Transaction Authorization Protocol (TAP) and Notabene Flow for B2B stablecoin pull, push and recurring payments.

2. Highlighted features & specifications

  • Counterparty identification: Identifies and screens counterparties and self-hosted wallets before a transfer.
  • VASP due diligence: Automated risk assessment using incorporation, licensing and Travel Rule data of 2,300+ VASPs.
  • Multi-protocol exchange: Sends and receives Travel Rule data regardless of the counterparty's protocol.
  • Jurisdiction rules: Thresholds and entities can be configured per jurisdiction without engineering work.
  • SafePII encryption: Escrowed end-to-end encrypted exchange of customer data.
  • API and dashboard: Approve or decline transfers, store data and generate reports via dashboard or API.

3. Potential application

A licensed Vietnamese crypto-asset exchange can exchange Travel Rule data with foreign exchanges and custodians on each withdrawal. A bank offering digital asset custody can verify the beneficiary institution before releasing transfers. A payment company can accept stablecoin invoices from overseas buyers via Notabene Flow.

4. Benefits

Institutions meet Travel Rule obligations across jurisdictions without building protocol integrations, and the first phase can be completed in under a week. Counterparty due diligence draws on profiles of 2,300+ VASPs. Encrypted, escrowed PII and SOC 2 Type II controls support data protection reviews. Notabene reports more than US$3 trillion in transaction volume processed.
