1. Technology overview
Trace Register has provided seafood supply chain traceability services since 2005, with press releases datelined Seattle, Washington. It helps seafood companies of all sizes document where products come from and meet import and retailer requirements.
ORIGIN by trace register, launched in June 2025 on the TR5 platform, traces seafood lot by lot across the chain and lets users attach more than 100 types of documents and certificates to each lot. It automates SIMP import records through customs brokers, supports FSMA 204 requirements and GS1 standards, and can show traceability to consumers via QR codes on packaging. The platform is available in nine languages and has passed the GDST Capability Test.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Lot-level traceability: Each seafood lot is tracked through harvest, processing and distribution.
- Document management: More than 100 document and certificate types can be attached to lots.
- SIMP automation: Import records are prepared and passed to customs brokers.
- FSMA 204 support: Key data elements are captured for the US food traceability rule.
- Consumer QR: Traceability information can be shown via QR codes on packaging.
- Interoperability: GDST-capable data exchange, APIs and Excel import/export.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese shrimp and pangasius exporters can share lot records and certificates with US importers using ORIGIN. Tuna processors can document catch origin for SIMP filings. Seafood brands can add QR traceability on retail packs for export markets.
4. Benefits
The company reports an average 80% reduction in manual data entry for users. Document management at lot level keeps certificates and catch records ready for audits. Automated SIMP data flows reduce delays at US customs. GDST capability and GS1 support make data exchange with major buyers easier.
5. Market trends & opportunities
US seafood importers must meet the SIMP programme and the FSMA 204 traceability rule, while retailers increasingly expect GDST-aligned data. Vietnam is one of the largest seafood suppliers to the US, so exporters of shrimp, pangasius and tuna need platforms that carry lot-level records through to importers.
