1. Technology overview
Oysterable, Inc. is a Seoul-based company that builds circular economy infrastructure for cities using AI and IoT. Over seven years, from its first RC 1.0 robot in 2019, it has deployed 1,041 collection robots that serve 112,000 citizens, and it runs two loops: recycling of household PET, cans and paper cartons, and reuse of cafe cups.
Lalaloop Recycle pairs AI vision collection robots (RC 4.0 and RC LIGHT) that recognise and accept clean PET, cans, paper cartons and Tetra Pak with the reward app Today's Recycling. Robots are monitored through an AWS IoT Core control system, and collection data flows automatically into ESG, EPR and carbon-neutral point reporting. Lalaloop Reuse is a full-stack reusable cup service covering rental, return, washing and resupply, with each cup tracked by a Lalaloop ID. Customers are local governments, retailers, cafe chains and public agencies.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- AI vision robots: RC 4.0 and RC LIGHT recognise PET, cans, paper cartons and Tetra Pak in real time.
- IoT control centre: AWS IoT Core monitoring of volumes, stock and faults across 1,000+ robots.
- Carbon and EPR data: collection data flows automatically into ESG reports, EPR and carbon-neutral points.
- Reward app: Today's Recycling app with reward mall, partner coupons and automatic point accrual.
- Digital product passport: Lalaloop ID with QR, barcode or RFID tracks each reusable cup's lifecycle.
- Public system APIs: two-way integration with ministry and local government systems.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese city districts and smart city projects can place AI collection robots in parks and public buildings with reward points. Supermarket and convenience chains can link recycling returns to loyalty programmes. Cafe chains and office complexes can pilot reusable cup loops with deposit tracking.
4. Benefits
AI vision sorts PET, cans, cartons and Tetra Pak with over 95% accuracy and rejects contaminated items, producing clean feedstock. Rewards lift participation; one store programme raised monthly collection from 13.5 kg to 335 kg. Collection data feeds ESG, EPR and carbon-neutral point reporting without manual counting. The reuse service reports an average cup return rate above 92%.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Cities in Asia are moving toward separate collection of clean recyclables and reusable packaging to cut single-use plastic and meet EPR goals. Vietnam's household waste sorting requirements and growing cafe culture create room for AI collection points and reusable cup systems in urban districts, offices and campuses.
6. Other information
Oysterable, Inc. is based at Startup Village, Jongno-gu, Seoul, led by CEO Bae Tae-kwan. Awards include EU Chamber of Commerce (2023), Japanese Sustainability Competition (2023), MWC24 4YFN Top 5 Greentech Startup and a US Plastics Pact Award honourable mention (2024). It targets 100,000 units by 2030 and works with about 70 local governments and 100 companies and agencies.
