1. Technology overview
Photoruction Inc. was founded on 14 March 2016 in Tokyo by CEO Takaharu Nakajima with the mission of making the construction world as smart as possible. It targets the heavy administrative load on Japanese site engineers, who spend long hours sorting site photos, updating drawings and preparing inspection and handover documents.
The company combines software with outsourced services in a business-process-as-a-service model. Photoruction Build is a construction management cloud for photos, drawings and site records on mobile and web, and Photoruction Site manages resources. Its construction BPO service, launched in October 2022, uses AI and remote staff to prepare inspection documents, construction plans and photo boards by work type. Users range from major general contractors to civil engineering firms.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Photo management: Organises site photos on mobile and cloud and links them to locations and work types.
- Drawing management: Shares the latest drawings with site teams and records markups.
- Photoruction Build: Provides a construction management cloud for site records and inspections.
- Photoruction Site: Manages construction resources in the cloud.
- Construction BPO: Uses AI and remote staff to prepare inspection documents, plans and photo boards.
- Subsidy support: Helps eligible Japanese firms apply for adoption subsidies of up to JPY 1.5 million.
3. Potential application
A Japanese contractor building factories in Vietnam can standardise photo records and inspection documents across Japanese and Vietnamese teams. A Vietnamese general contractor can centralise site photos and drawings for high-rise projects. A design-build firm can outsource the preparation of acceptance photo boards to reduce engineer overtime.
4. Benefits
The SaaS has been used on more than 200,000 construction projects since its November 2017 launch, including projects of major general contractors. Moving photo sorting, drawing management and document preparation to the cloud and to AI-assisted BPO frees site engineers for on-site work and helps contractors cope with labour shortages and overtime limits. ISO 27001 certification supports security reviews by large contractors.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Construction in Japan and across Asia faces ageing workforces and stricter overtime rules, so contractors are shifting paperwork to cloud tools and outsourced back offices. In Vietnam, decrees on digital construction records and the BIM roadmap are pushing contractors to digitise site photos, logs and acceptance documents.
6. Other information
