Pionix EVerest Charging Software and ChargeBridge

Pionix is a German company based in Bad Schönborn, founded in February 2021 by Marco Möller, Johanna Claussen and Cornelius Claussen. It initiated EVerest, an open-source software stack for EV chargers that became a Linux Foundation Energy project in 2022, and helps charger manufacturers bring products to market faster without building charging firmware from scratch.

EVerest runs on the charger's Linux controller and implements OCPP 1.6, 2.0.1 and 2.1, ISO 15118-2 and -20, DIN 70121 and SLAC, enabling smart charging, Plug&Charge and bidirectional use cases. Pionix sells products around the stack: ChargeBridge modules that handle low-level charging logic on a microcontroller, off-the-shelf charge controllers built with AST-X and Solectrix, open reference designs, engineering services for drivers, hardware bring-up and certification, and Pionix Cloud for fleet monitoring, maintenance and developer testing. Users and partners include Zaptec, Pod Point, eLoaded, Renesas, NXP and Texas Instruments.

Vietnamese electronics manufacturers can build AC and DC chargers on EVerest and ChargeBridge to meet OCPP and ISO 15118 requirements for export. Charging operators can standardise firmware across mixed hardware to simplify maintenance. Research institutes and universities can use the open stack and reference designs for V2G and smart charging pilots.

Charger makers can reuse a maintained open-source stack for communication standards instead of developing and certifying their own firmware. Off-the-shelf controllers are stated to enable a proof of concept in days and a prototype in about 10 weeks. Open code reduces vendor lock-in, and EVerest earned Hubject Plug&Charge pre-certification in 2025, easing interoperability work.

Charging standards are multiplying, from OCPP 2.x and ISO 15118 Plug&Charge to bidirectional charging and megawatt charging for trucks, raising software costs for charger makers. Open-source stacks backed by industry foundations are gaining adoption as a shared base. Asian manufacturers, including emerging charger makers in Vietnam, need fast and certifiable firmware to export to regulated markets.
