1. Technology overview
Eco-Pork is a Tokyo-based data company for the pork industry, founded on 29 November 2017 by Takashi Kambayashi. It aims to make pig farming sustainable by replacing paper records and experience-based decisions with data, and also runs a base in Kagoshima, its own SHIFT0 demonstration farm in Aichi and a US subsidiary, Eco-Pork America.
Porker is a cloud-based pig farm management system covering breeding, farrowing, weaning and fattening. Staff enter data on phones or tablets, including sow selection by QR code, and the system tracks pregnancy status, head counts, deaths, medication withdrawal periods and shipments with traceability back to the sow group. It connects to the Porker Sensor, Controller and AI series, including an AI camera that counts pigs and estimates body weight automatically, and Porker Connect installs networks in barns without internet. Porker serves farms from 50 to 10,000 sows and has been introduced at more than 150 farms.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Dashboard: live status of breeding, weaning and fattening with customisable tables and graphs.
- Breeding management: pregnancy status, expected farrowing dates and group mating planning.
- Fattening management: age, head count, deaths, withdrawal periods and shippable dates by barn or lot.
- Traceability: links shipped pigs to treatment history and the birth sow group.
- AI pig camera: automatic head counting and body-weight estimation in the pen.
- Mobile input and alerts: QR-based sow selection, tablet field notebook and SMS alarms.
3. Potential application
- Integrated pig producers digitising sow records and fattening batches across many farms.
- Feed companies and veterinary service providers using herd data and AI weighing to advise contract farmers.
- Export-oriented pork processors requiring traceability from shipped pigs back to treatment history.
4. Benefits
- Raises sow productivity: adopting farms report an average 7% increase in total piglets born in the first year.
- Replaces manual weighing with an AI camera that estimates pig weight automatically, saving labour and stress on animals.
- Supports HACCP and JGAP certification work and exports data for benchmarking.
- Flags sows that need attention and sends SMS alerts on abnormal events so problems are handled earlier.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Pig production is consolidating into larger farms that must manage disease risk, labour shortages and rising feed costs with fewer workers per head. Vietnam is one of the largest pork producers in Asia and its industry is moving toward high-tech and multi-storey farms, which increases demand for herd data, automated weighing and traceability.
6. Other information
