1. Technology overview
Power Factors was founded in 2013 in San Francisco and has grown, partly through the acquisitions of Greenbyte, 3megawatt and Inaccess, into a software provider for renewable energy owners and operators. It addresses the difficulty of monitoring, controlling and optimising mixed fleets of solar, wind, battery and hybrid plants built with equipment from many manufacturers.
The Unity suite covers the full operating stack: multi-OEM SCADA, power plant controllers for grid compliance, an energy management system for battery dispatch, asset performance management, asset oversight for contracts and compliance, invoice management and field service management. Unity REMI, launched in April 2026, is an intelligence engine trained on operational data from more than 310 GW of assets that predicts issues and automates responses. Customers include Repsol, Lightsource BP, Canadian Solar, Engie, Sonnedix, Origis Energy and ACEN Australia.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Multi-OEM SCADA: real-time monitoring and control of inverters, turbines and batteries from fleet KPIs to asset level.
- Power plant controller: frequency response and hybrid coordination to meet grid codes.
- Energy management system: battery dispatch optimised across markets using real-time forecasts.
- Asset performance management: fleet-wide health analysis linked to field execution.
- Asset oversight and invoicing: contracts, risks, compliance and automated renewable invoices in one view.
- Unity REMI: AI engine that senses, predicts and automates responses across the suite.
3. Potential application
Independent power producers with solar and wind plants across several Vietnamese provinces could unify monitoring and performance analysis in one platform. Developers adding battery storage to existing solar farms could use the EMS and power plant controller for dispatch and grid compliance. Asset managers serving foreign investors could automate contract tracking and invoicing.
4. Benefits
Owners manage solar, wind, storage and hybrid sites from different manufacturers in one suite instead of separate vendor portals. Automated invoice generation with built-in validation reduces disputes and shortens payment cycles. Work orders flow from analytics to technicians and back, closing the loop between detected losses and field action. Origis Energy uses Unity APM across 4.6 GW of solar and storage while working toward a 98% performance target.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Renewable portfolios are becoming hybrid, combining solar with battery storage, which raises the need for software that handles monitoring, grid compliance and dispatch together. In Vietnam, growing solar fleets, planned battery storage and the direct power purchase mechanism point to demand for multi-OEM operating platforms that scale across many sites.
6. Other information
Founded in 2013 in San Francisco. Vista Equity Partners became majority owner in 2021, and Mubadala joined as a strategic minority investor in May 2026. Acquired Greenbyte (2021), 3megawatt (2021) and Inaccess (2022). Serves 600+ enterprise customers in more than 70 countries with over 310 GW under management. Ranked first for EMS and monitoring and control by Guidehouse Research in January 2026.
