1. Technology overview
Promethean Particles is a specialist in synthesizing and producing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), based at Genesis Park, Nottingham, United Kingdom. MOFs are highly porous materials used for capturing and separating gases.
The company uses a proprietary, patented continuous-flow manufacturing process to scale MOF production. It sells MOF products such as ProMOF 1300, offers feasibility studies and MOF scale-up services, and serves carbon capture, biogas upgrading, atmospheric water harvesting and gas storage and separation. In November 2025 it completed a four-tonne MOF export, its largest order to date.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Continuous-flow synthesis: proprietary patented MOF manufacturing process.
- ProMOF 1300: MOF supplied for atmospheric water harvesting.
- Feasibility studies: technical and economic assessment of a chosen MOF.
- Scale-up services: moving MOFs from lab quantity to commercial volume.
- Multiple applications: carbon capture, biogas upgrading, water harvesting, gas storage.
3. Potential application
Biogas plants in Vietnam could test MOFs for upgrading biogas. Cement and steel plants could pilot MOF-based CO2 capture. Water-technology firms could integrate MOFs into atmospheric water harvesters.
4. Benefits
Continuous-flow production allows MOFs to be supplied in tonne quantities. Feasibility and scale-up services help buyers test whether a MOF is viable technically and economically. One MOF grade is already used in a commercial water harvesting system. The product range spans several gas-handling uses.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Interest in MOFs for carbon capture and water harvesting rose after the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for MOF research. Vietnam faces industrial decarbonization needs and rural water-access challenges that make adsorbent materials relevant.
6. Other information
Based at 1-3 Genesis Park, Midland Way, Nottingham, UK (Company No. 0642729). Customer Ahbstra uses ProMOF 1300 in its ARK atmospheric water harvesting system, launched July 2026. Showcased MOF carbon capture at an Institute of Physics event in February 2026.
