1. Technology overview
Regula is a developer of identity verification software and forensic devices founded in 1992, with group companies in Latvia, the United States, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands and Brazil. It helps banks, airlines, border agencies and digital platforms confirm that identity documents and the people presenting them are genuine, both remotely and in person.
Its Document Reader SDK reads and authenticates passports, ID cards and driver's licences from 254 countries and territories, including MRZ, barcodes, RFID chips and dynamic security features, and detects tampering. The Face SDK adds liveness, face matching and anti-spoofing. Launched in October 2025, the Regula IDV Platform orchestrates document and biometric checks, AML and PEP screening, database checks, user profiles, audit trails and reusable digital credentials in configurable workflows, deployable on-premise or in the cloud.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Document authentication: Verifies MRZ, barcodes, RFID chips and dynamic security features of IDs.
- Global template database: Covers documents from 254 countries and territories.
- Face biometrics: Provides liveness detection, face matching and anti-spoofing.
- IDV orchestration: Builds multi-step verification workflows with pre-built integrations.
- Compliance checks: Adds AML and PEP screening, database checks and audit trails.
- Flexible deployment: Runs on-premise or in the cloud and on web and mobile devices.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese bank can embed the Document Reader SDK in its mobile app to read citizen ID chips and verify faces during account opening. An airline or travel platform can authenticate passports at check-in. A fintech serving foreign customers can verify passports from many countries in one flow.
4. Benefits
Regula states 99.8% detection accuracy, identity verification in 1 to 2 seconds and up to 50% lower customer onboarding costs. Coverage of every country and territory, with more than 15,000 ID document templates, reduces the need for several regional vendors. On-premise deployment lets banks keep identity data inside their own infrastructure.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Chip-based national IDs and mobile driver's licences are spreading, and regulators in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia now expect remote onboarding to read and verify ID chips rather than rely on photos. Banks also prefer verification that can run on-premise to meet data localisation rules.
6. Other information
Founded in 1992. Group entities include Regula Baltija LLC (Daugavpils, Latvia), Regula Forensics Inc.
