1. Technology overview
ScaleAQ (Scale Aquaculture AS) is an aquaculture technology group headquartered in Trondheim, Norway, with over 40 years of marine engineering experience according to its site. It supplies pens, feeding, camera and sensor systems and software for fish farms on land and at sea.
FeedStation is its centralised feeding system, described as an open system with management and information APIs. It controls up to 16 feed lines, with a 90 mm line delivering up to 72 kg per minute over pipes of up to 800 m. It works with ScaleAQ's Vision camera software and environmental sensors, and integrates with Mercatus Farmer. The vendor reports more than 900 centralised feeding systems installed.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Centralised control: up to 16 feed lines, expandable, from one system.
- Open APIs: management and information APIs for data exchange and process control.
- Web interface: HTML5 interface usable on desktop, tablet and mobile.
- Reporting: graphs, reports and historical feeding profiles across multiple locations with change traceability.
- Sensor and camera integration: pressure, temperature and air speed readings plus camera and remote control systems.
- Dual silo feeding: two pellet sizes dispensed at the same time.
3. Potential application
Offshore cage fish farms in Vietnam can run centralised feeding from a barge or shore station. Large land-based hatcheries and recirculating facilities can integrate feeding with camera monitoring. Aquaculture groups can consolidate feeding data from several sites through the open API.
4. Benefits
Feed is delivered in target amounts at set times with monitoring and operator recommendations. Uniform pipe dimensions and a joint-free distribution valve are intended to limit damage to pellets. Components are chosen for long service intervals to reduce maintenance cost. Two silos with different pellet sizes can be fed at the same time.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Large aquaculture operations are moving to centralised, data-integrated feeding to control feed cost and fish welfare. Open APIs let farm software and cameras share data. In Vietnam, such systems are most relevant to marine cage farming and large land-based fish or shrimp facilities rather than small ponds.
6. Other information
Headquartered at Beddingen 16, Trondheim, Norway; group brands Moen Marin, Maskon and SirkAQ. Reported record 2025 operating revenues of NOK 4.5 billion. Has operations in Chile and delivered a first feed barge to Japan in 2026; no Vietnam activity is mentioned on the site.
