SCGC GREEN POLYMER Low-Carbon and Recycled Resins

SCG Chemicals (SCGC) is the chemicals business of Thailand's SCG group, headquartered in Bangkok, and an integrated chemical producer across ASEAN. Its subsidiary Long Son Petrochemicals operates Vietnam's first integrated petrochemical complex. Under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER brand, the company offers resins that help packaging and product makers cut virgin plastic use, improve recyclability and lower carbon emissions.

The portfolio follows four pillars. Reduce uses the proprietary SMX technology to make stronger, stiffer HDPE so less material is needed. Recyclable covers mono-material flexible packaging with anti-permeation coatings for frozen food, snack and refill pouches. Recycle offers high-quality post-consumer recycled (PCR) resin, including odourless grades, and advanced recycling that turns used plastic into feedstock for food-grade resin. Renewable covers bio-based and compostable plastics. Customers include consumer goods, packaging and industrial container manufacturers.

Vietnamese consumer goods companies can add PCR resin to detergent and personal care bottles to meet EPR obligations. Flexible packaging converters can switch snack and frozen food pouches to mono-material structures. Lubricant and chemical makers can use SMX HDPE to make lighter jerry cans and gallon containers.

SMX-based HDPE lets converters use less plastic while keeping strength, lowering material cost and CO2 emissions. PCR resin performs better than conventional recycled plastics and has been adopted in packaging for global brands such as Unilever and Shell. Mono-material structures certified by RecyClass make flexible packaging easier to recycle. ISCC certification covers the advanced recycling supply chain.

Extended producer responsibility rules in Vietnam require packaging producers and importers to meet recycling obligations, and the EU and global brands are setting recycled content targets. Consumer goods companies in Southeast Asia need recycled and lightweight resins that run on existing lines while meeting food contact and quality standards.
