SG Enviro Plasma-Nanobubble Industrial Wastewater Treatment

SG Enviro is a Singapore industrial wastewater company incorporated in 2018 and led by environmental engineer Guah Eng Hock. It designs, integrates and operates treatment plants for effluents that are hard to treat with conventional biology, such as phenol-laden water from oil storage, petrochemical slop and palm oil mill effluent, and it runs its own R&D lab, fabrication and O&M teams.

Its core technology combines non-thermal plasma with nanobubbles below 200 nm: electrical discharges create hydroxyl and oxygen radicals, and charged nanobubbles carry these radicals to pollutants as an advanced oxidation process that cuts chemical dosing and sludge. The company wraps this with conventional steps such as MBR, anaerobic digestion, DAF, filtration and brackish water RO, and delivers projects as design and build, retrofit, build-operate-transfer or long-term operation and maintenance. Customers include oil and gas, petrochemical, renewable energy, palm oil, mining and dormitory operators.

Oil depots and petrochemical plants in Vietnam can pilot plasma AOP for phenol and oily wastewater. Textile, dyeing and pharmaceutical factories can add an oxidation stage to meet colour and COD limits. Industrial park operators and worker dormitories can upgrade sewage plants for water reuse under a BOT or O&M contract.

Plasma-nanobubble oxidation mineralises organic pollutants into CO2 and water, which the company says leaves negligible secondary waste compared with flocculant-based treatment. Lower chemical consumption and sludge volumes reduce operating cost. Owners can buy a turnkey plant or let SG Enviro build, operate and maintain it. Track record includes a 3,750 m3/day dormitory sewage plant upgrade with water recycling and a 6,000 m3/day wastewater plant.

Industrial parks across Southeast Asia face tighter discharge permits and rising pressure to reuse water, while petrochemical, palm oil and pharmaceutical effluents contain recalcitrant compounds that conventional biology struggles with. Chemical-light oxidation processes and outsourced operation models are gaining ground as factories try to cut sludge disposal and compliance risk.
