1. Technology overview
SYN-ROBOTICS Inc. is a Japanese startup headquartered in Miyota Town, Nagano Prefecture. It was spun off on 6 March 2026 from Sustainergy Inc., whose Shin-Robo project began in 2019. The company develops AI agricultural robots for open-field crop farming to reduce repetitive manual labor.
Shin-Robo is an AI-equipped robot that stays in the field and runs continuously. It drives autonomously along crop ridges and removes weeds at the base of crops through the holes in mulch sheets, while collecting field data that AI analyzes. The 2026 unit was announced for a live demonstration in a lettuce field, and the company plans seeding, harvesting and cultivation-decision support later.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Field-resident operation: stays in the field for continuous running.
- Autonomous driving: drives along ridges and turns autonomously outside the ridges.
- Precision weeding: removes weeds at the crop base through mulch-sheet holes.
- Field monitoring: patrols fields and records data for AI analysis.
- Results dashboard: shows work results to the farmer.
- Roadmap: seeding, harvesting and cultivation-timing support are planned.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese vegetable cooperatives in Da Lat could pilot mulch-row weeding with a resident robot. Research institutes could use the data collection to compare cultivation methods. Agricultural machinery distributors could explore a partnership for upland crops.
4. Benefits
Reduces repetitive weeding labor by working continuously in the field. Removes weeds precisely at the crop base through mulch holes. Field data collected during operation supports AI analysis of farming methods that are hard to evaluate by hand. The robot loads onto a light truck for transport between fields.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Farm labor shortages and aging farmers in Japan are pushing demand for field robots that take over weeding and patrol work. Similar labor and herbicide pressures exist in Vietnamese vegetable and upland-crop production, which may open distribution or joint-development interest in the longer term.
6. Other information
Founded 6 March 2026 as a spin-off of Sustainergy Inc. (Shin-Robo project since 2019); CEO Tomoyuki Yanagimoto. Completed its first funding round on 28 April 2026 and was selected for the Physical AI Thinka startup program in April 2026. Product is at demonstration stage.
