1. Technology overview
SkyeChip is a Malaysian IP and IC design company founded in 2019 and headquartered in Bayan Lepas, Penang. It addresses the bottleneck that AI and high performance computing chips face in moving data to and from memory, by licensing ready-made interface IP and designing custom ASICs for chip companies.
Its portfolio covers standard and programmable IP, memory interface IP such as HBM and LPDDR, and system-optimised Network-on-Chip, alongside 6nm/7nm ASIC development, new product introduction engineering and high-volume manufacturing enablement. In May 2025 its HBM3E IP reached 8800 Mbps on 4nm with first-time silicon success. Customers are mainly chip developers in China and Taiwan.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Memory interface IP: HBM and LPDDR controller and PHY IP for AI and HPC chips.
- Programmable IP: standard and programmable IP blocks for licensing.
- Network-on-Chip: system-optimised on-chip interconnect.
- Advanced ASIC: 6nm/7nm custom ASIC development from architecture to physical design.
- NPI engineering: new product introduction support from first silicon to production.
- HVM enablement: high-volume manufacturing and global supply chain management.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese chip design company building an AI or edge SoC can license memory interface IP rather than develop it in-house. A design centre in Vietnam can partner with SkyeChip on ASIC projects at advanced nodes. Universities and training programmes can work with the company on talent development, as it already does with Malaysian universities.
4. Benefits
Chip developers can license proven memory interface IP instead of designing HBM or LPDDR controllers from scratch. HBM3E IP running at 8800 Mbps on 4nm reached first-time silicon success. A team of 365 IC designers covers architecture through physical design and supply chain management. Revenue grew from RM57.2 million in FY2023 to RM119.5 million in FY2025, which signals a stable supplier.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Demand for AI accelerators and data centre chips is driving rapid growth in high-bandwidth memory interfaces. Southeast Asia, led by Malaysia's National Semiconductor Strategy, is moving from assembly and test into front-end design and IP, and Vietnam is pursuing a similar shift, which creates room for regional IP suppliers and design partnerships.
6. Other information
Founded in 2019 in Penang, Malaysia. Listed on Bursa Malaysia Main Market on 20 May 2026, raising RM352 million; cornerstone investors include EPF and Khazanah Nasional. Gobi Partners invested in 2025. Member of the Intel Foundry Accelerator IP Alliance (2025) and Rapidus CORE (2026); IET Malaysia Industry Excellence Platinum Award 2023.
