1. Technology overview
solidian kelteks is a European manufacturer of non-corrosive reinforcements for the construction and composite industries, combining Croatian technical textile maker Kelteks, which started in a garage more than 30 years ago, with solidian, a startup of the German Groz-Beckert Group. It addresses steel corrosion, heavy reinforcement and high cement use in concrete structures.
solidian GRID carbon is a lightweight carbon fibre composite grid used as load-bearing reinforcement in precast and in-situ concrete, with a characteristic tensile strength of at least 2600 N/mm2 and a stiffness similar to steel. It was the first carbon reinforcement grid to receive a general building approval (abZ/aBG) from the German DIBt, allowing up to six layers in facades, sandwich panels, balconies, bridges and parking slabs. The wider range covers flexible grids for seismic retrofitting (FRCM), ANTICRACK repair mortar layers, Briksy masonry reinforcement and composite reinforcements for automotive, marine and railway.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Carbon grid reinforcement: high-performance carbon fibre composite with tensile strength of at least 2600 N/mm2.
- Building approval: first carbon grid with German DIBt abZ/aBG approval for up to six reinforcement layers.
- Flexible formats: standard sheets of 6.0 x 2.30 m and rolls, in several load levels.
- Seismic retrofitting: solidian FLEX GRID carbon for FRCM strengthening of walls and slabs.
- Repair and masonry lines: ANTICRACK for repair mortar layers and Briksy for bed joint reinforcement.
- Planning support: EPD data, planning center tools, downloads and online seminars for designers.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese precast concrete plants could produce thinner facade panels, sandwich walls and balcony slabs reinforced with solidian GRID. Contractors could use carbon FRCM to strengthen or repair old buildings, sewers and parking structures, and coastal or port projects could reduce corrosion-related maintenance.
4. Benefits
Because carbon does not corrode, solidian GRID allows thinner, slimmer components with minimal concrete cover, using up to 50% less water, aggregates and cement. The company cites a 30% lower CO2 footprint and lower transport and storage costs, since the grid ships in rolls and makes precast elements lighter. Less maintenance and repair also means fewer service interruptions for owners.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Corrosion of steel reinforcement shortens the life of bridges, coastal structures, parking decks and wastewater facilities, and construction faces pressure to cut cement use and embodied carbon. Carbon and textile reinforced concrete is moving into codes and approvals. Vietnam's long coastline, humid climate and large precast and infrastructure programs make durable, non-corrosive reinforcement relevant.
6. Other information
Operated by Kelteks d.o.o., Karlovac, Croatia, part of the Groz-Beckert Group (founded 1852, present in over 150 countries). Sites in Karlovac (Croatia), Albstadt (Germany), Izmir (Turkiye) and France. solidian GRID received German DIBt general building approval in August 2024; member of the C3 Carbon Concrete network.
