1. Technology overview
Power & Water, the trading name of KP2M Limited, is a water treatment technology company based in Swansea, Wales. It targets operators who want to remove phosphorus, metals and hard-to-degrade organics without buying and storing liquid chemicals such as ferric salts, and without the high energy use and electrode fouling that have held back conventional electrochemical treatment.
Its Soneco system combines electrocoagulation with ultrasonics in a passivation-proof electrolysis reactor: sacrificial metal plates generate coagulant on site while targeted ultrasound keeps electrodes clean and improves reaction efficiency. The product line includes DB reactors, power supply units and electrodes, with auto, fixed, profile and flow/load-based control modes and AI insights for process optimisation. Applications cover municipal sewage works, industrial effluent, mine water, construction, agriculture, aquaculture and drinking water; UK water companies such as Southern Water have trialled it for phosphorus removal.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Sono-electrochemistry: electrocoagulation combined with ultrasonics in one reactor.
- Passivation-proof electrodes: ultrasound keeps plates active and reduces cleaning downtime.
- Liquid chemical-free coagulation: metal ions are generated on site instead of dosing ferric or aluminium salts.
- Flexible control modes: auto, fixed, profile and flow/load-proportional operation.
- Modular hardware: DB reactors, power supply units and replaceable electrodes.
- Multi-application use: phosphorus and nutrient removal, recalcitrant organics, mine water, aquaculture and reuse.
3. Potential application
Small municipal and resort sewage plants in Vietnam can remove phosphorus without storing ferric chemicals. Coal and mineral mines in Quang Ninh can treat iron- and metal-laden mine water. Shrimp and fish farms can treat recirculating or discharge water to reduce nutrient loads.
4. Benefits
Coagulant is generated on site from metal plates, removing the need for liquid chemical deliveries, storage and handling. The passivation-proof design with ultrasonics is aimed at avoiding the high energy use and frequent maintenance of conventional electrochemical systems. One unit can serve several needs: phosphorus removal, pre-treatment of organic load, metals and iron removal, and water recovery for reuse.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Tighter nutrient limits on effluent and concerns about chemical supply chains are driving interest in chemical-free treatment. In Southeast Asia, small decentralised sewage plants, aquaculture farms and mines need compact systems that do not depend on regular chemical deliveries, and electrochemical methods are gaining acceptance as their energy use and maintenance improve.
6. Other information
KP2M Limited, trading as Power & Water, is based at Ashmount Business Park, Swansea, UK. It holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and Achilles UVDB verification.
