1. Technology overview
Systech International, headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, provides serialization, track-and-trace and brand protection software for pharmaceutical and consumer goods manufacturers. It was acquired by Dover in 2020 and is part of Markem-Imaje, while keeping the Systech brand.
UniSecure is a non-additive authentication solution: smart cameras on the packaging line capture the natural print variations of barcodes already on each pack and turn them into a unique e-Fingerprint. Partners and inspectors use a mobile app to check whether a product is genuine, see who handled it where and when, and receive alerts on diverted goods. The newer UniSecure artAI uses machine vision and neural networks to authenticate packaging artwork as a cloud service. Users include Sharp Packaging, Boehringer Ingelheim and Takeda.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- e-Fingerprint: Natural print variations of existing barcodes form a unique identity for each pack.
- Line cameras: Smart cameras capture fingerprints during packaging without slowing production.
- Mobile verification: Partners and inspectors check authenticity with a smartphone app.
- Chain of custody view: Users see who handled a product, where and when.
- Diversion alerts: Products appearing outside intended channels trigger alerts.
- artAI option: AI analyses packaging artwork for authentication and quality inspection as SaaS.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese pharmaceutical manufacturers can authenticate packs using barcodes they already print for serialization. Distributors of imported medicines can verify products at receipt and detect diversion. Supplement and cosmetics brands can use artAI to check packaging artwork in the market.
4. Benefits
Authentication works with barcodes already printed on packs, so no labels, inks or packaging changes are needed. Each unit receives a unique fingerprint that is very hard to replicate. Field teams can verify products and detect diversion with a smartphone. The artAI cloud version needs no hardware integration and can also protect products already on the market.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Counterfeit and diverted medicines are a growing risk worldwide, and serialization rules such as the US DSCSA and EU FMD are pushing manufacturers to identify each pack. Vietnam is tightening pharmaceutical traceability and fighting fake medicines and supplements, creating demand for authentication methods that work with existing packaging lines.
6. Other information
