1. Technology overview
LifeSignals is a Milpitas, California medical wearables company built on its own wireless semiconductor platform, co-founded by CEO Surendar Magar, co-inventor of the Texas Instruments TMS320 DSP chip, and UC Berkeley professor Ali Niknejad. Its leadership is spread across California, Bangalore and Singapore. It aims to make continuous clinical-grade monitoring cheap and disposable enough to use beyond the ICU.
The UbiqVue range uses single-use chest-worn biosensors built on a LifeSignals system-on-chip produced by STMicroelectronics. The Multiparameter System captures 2-channel ECG, respiration rate, skin temperature and motion, and newer versions add SpO2, pulse rate and posture, sending encrypted data via a relay app or access point to the cloud and a clinician web portal with alerts. The 2AYe Holter System records 2-channel ECG for up to 5 days with cloud ECG analytics. Customers are hospitals, home monitoring providers, cardiac service companies and OEM partners.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Multiparameter biosensor: chest patch capturing 2-channel ECG, respiration rate, skin temperature and motion.
- Extended vitals: newer biosensor adds SpO2, pulse rate, body temperature and posture.
- 2AYe Holter: disposable 2-channel ECG and event recording for up to 5 days with no device return.
- Cloud analytics: encrypted data processed in the cloud, with ECG analysis within minutes of test completion.
- Clinician web portal: remote viewing of vital signs with alert notifications in hospital or home.
- OEM and SoC platform: wireless system-on-chip and fast-track OEM integration for device makers.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese hospitals with Philips central monitoring could add UbiqVue patches for wireless monitoring on general and isolation wards. Cardiac diagnostic centres could offer 5-day disposable Holter tests without device logistics. Medical device makers and electronics manufacturers in Vietnam could explore OEM integration of the biosensor platform.
4. Benefits
Single-use biosensors remove cleaning, charging and device retrieval, so hospitals and Holter services avoid mailing devices back. One patch replaces several wired sensors for ECG, respiration, temperature and motion, letting patients move freely while staff receive near real-time alerts. Cloud ECG analytics cut technician over-read time so physicians receive Holter reports within hours. Integration with the Philips monitoring ecosystem lets hospitals add wearables to existing central stations.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Patient monitoring is extending from the bedside to general wards, hospital-at-home and post-discharge care, and major monitor vendors are opening their platforms to third-party wearables. Disposable sensors suit infection control and high-volume Holter services, and Asian manufacturing, including assembly partners with facilities in Vietnam, keeps unit costs low.
6. Other information
Based in Milpitas, California, with leadership in Bangalore, India and Singapore. Its system-on-chip is produced by STMicroelectronics and biosensors are assembled by Dreamtech, which has facilities in Korea, Vietnam and China. The UbiqVue Multiparameter System has FDA 510(k) clearance and EU MDR certification. Holter distribution partner: UltraLinQ Healthcare Solutions.
