1. Technology overview
UP42 was founded in Berlin in 2019 and is part of Neo Space Group. It tackles the fragmentation of Earth observation buying: organisations otherwise need separate contracts, formats and portals for each satellite or aerial data supplier.
The platform offers one catalogue to search archive imagery, task new captures, process data and manage orders. It covers multispectral, SAR, hyperspectral, aerial, elevation and lidar data from providers such as Airbus, Planet, ICEYE, Capella Space, BlackSky, Satellogic, Pixxel and Axelspace. Processing tools enhance and analyse imagery, and an API automates search, ordering and delivery. Customers include geospatial analytics firms such as AiDash, LiveEO and Overstory, engineering companies and public bodies.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Catalog: search archive imagery across many optical, radar and aerial providers.
- Tasking: request new captures and track quotations and orders by project.
- Processing: enhancement and analysis tools applied to ordered data.
- Data management: storage, access control and delivery of purchased datasets.
- API and developer docs: automate search, ordering and retrieval.
- UP42 Enterprise: budgets, user roles, WMTS streaming and consolidated invoicing.
3. Potential application
- GIS and survey firms in Vietnam buying optical and SAR imagery for mapping projects from one account.
- Energy and mining companies monitoring sites with combined radar and optical data.
- Insurers ordering post-disaster imagery after typhoons or floods.
4. Benefits
- One account and one API instead of separate contracts with dozens of data suppliers.
- Prepaid credits (100 credits = EUR 1) with a low EUR 100 entry point and price estimates before purchase.
- Enterprise budget caps, user roles and monthly invoicing for multi-team procurement.
- Direct WMTS streaming of imagery into GIS tools without downloading files.
5. Market trends & opportunities
The number of commercial imaging and radar satellites keeps rising, but buyers struggle with fragmented suppliers and licensing. In Southeast Asia, agencies and companies working on disasters, agriculture, mining and infrastructure increasingly combine several sensors, which favours aggregator platforms with API access.
6. Other information
Founded in Berlin in 2019; office at Umspannwerk Kreuzberg, Berlin. Part of Neo Space Group, which operates NSG UP42 in Saudi Arabia (partnership with Axelspace announced June 2026). Offers Professional and Enterprise plans and a public trust center.
