Volt Active Data, headquartered at Mall Road in Burlington, Massachusetts, traces its origin to 2009 when database pioneer Michael Stonebraker conceived VoltDB, an in-memory relational database first released in 2010; the company rebranded as Volt Active Data in 2022. It sells a platform for mission-critical systems that must make decisions on each event within milliseconds while staying fully consistent.

Volt combines an in-memory ACID transactional engine with stream processing, so incoming events can be enriched, evaluated against rules or models and acted upon in under 10 ms.
