1. Technology overview
NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS, Inc., renamed from NTT Communications in July 2025, is the enterprise ICT arm of the NTT DOCOMO group in Japan. Through its WideAngle security services it offers OsecT, an OT intrusion detection system built on NTT Laboratories technology for traffic flow analysis from large ISP DDoS mitigation and risk visualisation used for communications infrastructure at international events.
A sensor connected by LAN cable to a switch in the factory network collects mirrored traffic and sends it over a bundled closed mobile network to the OsecT SaaS, or keeps analysis inside the customer site in an on-premises edition. The web portal shows device OS versions, connections and traffic, and alerts on unknown devices, new communications and unusual volumes. A joint package with IIJ Safous adds secure remote access with approvals and session recording on the same appliance. Target users are manufacturers of all sizes.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- OT network visibility: Shows connected devices, OS versions and communication layouts.
- Early threat detection: Alerts on unknown devices, new communications and unusual traffic volumes.
- Plug-in sensor: Connects to an existing switch and uses a bundled closed mobile network.
- SaaS or on-premises: Offers cloud analysis or fully on-site monitoring.
- Secure remote access: Combines with IIJ Safous for approved, recorded access to control systems.
- Partner licensing: Lets partners embed the OsecT software license in their own offerings.
3. Potential application
A Japanese-owned factory in a Vietnamese industrial park can install a sensor to detect unknown devices on its production network. A manufacturing group can monitor plants in Vietnam and Japan from one portal. An automation integrator can bundle OsecT with remote maintenance access for its factory customers.
4. Benefits
Manufacturers can start OT monitoring at a much lower cost than imported OT security products, according to NTT. Installation only requires plugging a sensor into an existing switch, and the bundled closed mobile network removes the need to lay new lines. Security staff can watch multiple factories from one SaaS portal, and an optional operations support service answers questions about alerts.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Many factories still lack basic OT network visibility, while remote access to equipment has grown since the pandemic and created new risks. Japanese manufacturers with plants across ASEAN, including Vietnam, are extending factory security standards to overseas sites, and NTT plans to offer OsecT in the ASEAN region in 2026.
6. Other information
NTT Communications changed its name to NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS on 1 July 2025. OsecT won six Global InfoSec Awards 2026, including Market Disruptor OT Security. The joint OsecT and IIJ Safous solution went on sale in Japan on 1 September 2025, with an ASEAN rollout targeted for 2026.
