1. Technology overview
PT Zentide Bioteknologi Global is an Indonesian biotechnology startup established in January 2025 in Central Lombok, built and supported by the Southeast Asian climate venture builder Wavemaker Impact with initial funding of 525,000 USD. It develops biostimulants from bioactive tropical seaweed to restore soil health, cut chemical fertilizer use and lower farm emissions, while creating livelihoods for coastal seaweed farmers.
Its flagship product Kaylix combines Lombok seaweed extract with humic and fulvic acids, amino acids, the plant hormones auxin, cytokinin and gibberellin, and 13 active microbes. It is diluted at 10 ml per litre of water and applied every 10 to 14 days on rice, chili and horticultural crops. Zentide sells through distributors, online marketplaces and farmer meetings, and tracks modelled impact on area, farmers and emissions.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Seaweed extract base: formulated from tropical seaweed sourced in Lombok.
- Humic and fulvic acids: improve soil structure and nutrient availability.
- Plant hormones and amino acids: auxin, cytokinin and gibberellin support rooting and growth.
- 13 active microbes: microbial consortium for soil health and stress tolerance.
- Simple dosing: 10 ml per litre of water every 10 to 14 days.
- Distributor program: farmers and agents can join as distributors, with farmer meetings on request.
3. Potential application
- Rice and vegetable cooperatives in the Mekong Delta trialling a seaweed biostimulant to reduce fertilizer use.
- Agricultural input distributors adding an affordable biological booster for smallholders.
- Seaweed producers in south-central Vietnam exploring biostimulant processing partnerships.
4. Benefits
- Lower fertilizer cost: the company claims savings of up to 50% on chemical fertilizer.
- Higher output: Kaylix is claimed to raise harvest quality and quantity by up to 50%.
- Affordable entry: retail packs start at 55,000 IDR for 250 ml, with 20 L packs for larger farms and distributors.
- Measured impact: modelled figures cover 418.5 hectares, over 800 farmers and 700 tCO2e of emissions reduced.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Southeast Asian governments and food buyers are pushing to reduce chemical fertilizer subsidies and farm emissions, while seaweed production in Indonesia and Vietnam offers local raw material for biostimulants. Low-cost, locally made biologicals suit smallholder rice and vegetable farmers across the region.
