1. Technology overview
Enode is an Oslo-based energy software company and Y Combinator alumnus that provides one platform for energy retailers and the teams that trade for them. Through a single API it connects energy software to more than 1,000 device models, including EVs, home chargers, solar inverters, home batteries, heat pumps and thermostats, so that energy companies do not need to build separate integrations for each brand.
On top of device connectivity, Enode offers EV smart charging that shifts charging to the cheapest hours, home energy management for self-consumption and time-of-use tariffs, and dispatchable flexibility that aggregates connected homes into one resource. The flexibility layer provides load forecasts up to 36 hours ahead at 5 to 60 minute resolution, volume and price-based dispatch, delivery reporting against baselines and audit-ready export to settlement and ETRM systems. Customers include Vattenfall, EnBW, Essent, Eneco, Tibber, Ostrom and Pod Point.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Unified device API: data and control for 1,000+ models of EVs, chargers, inverters, batteries and heat pumps.
- EV smart charging: shifts charging to the cheapest hours before a customer deadline.
- Home energy optimisation: batteries, solar and meters managed to one plan.
- Flexibility aggregation: connected homes dispatched as one resource with volume or price control.
- Load forecasting: 5 to 60 minute forecasts up to 36 hours ahead.
- Delivery reporting: baselines, realised delivery and audit-ready export to settlement systems.
3. Potential application
EV charging operators in Vietnam could add smart home charging that avoids evening peak tariffs. Solar and battery installers could offer a single app that controls inverters and batteries from different brands. Power companies could pilot residential demand response using connected EVs and air conditioners.
4. Benefits
One integration replaces dozens of brand-specific device integrations, shortening time to market for smart charging and home energy products. Vattenfall cut EV charging costs by 50% for customers across Sweden using Enode. The platform reports 1.7 million connected households and more than 5,000 MW of controllable load, giving retailers flexibility at scale, with a 99.9% uptime SLA and AES-256 encryption at rest.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Electric vehicles, home batteries and heat pumps are becoming the largest flexible loads on distribution grids, and retailers are building smart charging and VPP products around them. In Vietnam and Southeast Asia, fast EV adoption and rooftop solar with storage are creating similar opportunities for retailers, charging operators and device makers to coordinate home devices.
6. Other information
Enode is based in Oslo and is a Y Combinator alumnus. In November 2022 it raised a 15 million USD Series A led by Creandum with Lowercarbon Capital and BoxGroup to expand its API platform and enter the US market. In 2025 and 2026 it announced work with Essent, EnBW, Tibber and Ostrom, and published residential flexibility research with Arthur D. Little.
