1. Technology overview
Rainbow Robotics was founded in 2011 in South Korea from the core technology of the HUBO humanoid robot and is headquartered in Sejong, with a US subsidiary in Illinois. It is a full-stack robotics company that develops actuators, controllers and software in-house and sells cobots, mobile robots, quadruped robots and dual-arm mobile robots.
The RBC series covers ten cobot models from 3 kg to 30 kg payload and 730 mm to 1,900 mm reach, with no mounting orientation restriction, and NSF-certified models for food and beverage. The company provides its robot software free of charge. The RB-Y1 is a mobile dual-arm robot platform designed for research, with the RB-Y2 announced for field operation. More than 5,000 RB cobots have been deployed across Korea, in cases such as Samsung Welstory food service and HD Hyundai Samho shipbuilding welding.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- RBC series: ten cobot models from 3 to 30 kg payload.
- Long reach: models such as RB20-1900 reach up to 1,900 mm.
- Food-grade options: NSF-certified models for food and beverage sites.
- Free software: robot operating software provided at no charge.
- RB-Y1: mobile dual-arm robot platform designed for AI research.
- Mobile robots: RBM series AMRs and mobile manipulator configurations.
3. Potential application
A shipyard or steel structure plant in Vietnam can use RB cobots for repetitive welding. A central kitchen or food chain can deploy NSF-certified cobots for frying and plating. A university AI lab can use RB-Y1 to collect data and train manipulation models.
4. Benefits
Ten payload and reach combinations, up to 1,900 mm, let buyers match the arm to each cell instead of over-specifying. Free robot software lowers total cost of ownership. NSF-certified models allow use in food preparation, and in-house actuators and controllers give the vendor control over quality and supply.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Food service, shipbuilding and auto parts makers in Korea are adopting cobots to address ageing workforces, while dual-arm mobile robots are becoming platforms for physical AI research. Similar labour pressures and Korean investment in Vietnamese manufacturing create demand for these robots in the region.
6. Other information
Founded in 2011 by Professor Jun-Ho Oh's HUBO humanoid team; headquarters in Sejong, South Korea, and a US office in Arlington Heights, Illinois. More than 5,000 RB cobots produced and deployed in Korea; exhibits at Automate in the United States.
