1. Technology overview
Verdant Energy is a renewable energy developer headquartered in Singapore and backed by A.P. Moller Capital. It invests in and builds solar projects across Asia Pacific, with a focus on commercial and industrial (C&I) rooftop solar in Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines, covering site selection, planning, financing, construction, and operation and maintenance.
For factories and commercial buildings, Verdant finances and delivers rooftop solar systems that supply clean electricity on site, so offtakers cut electricity costs and emissions. Recent Vietnamese projects include an 11.8 MWp system for Cheng Shin Rubber, 2 MWp for Kingdom Flow Control and 970 kWp for Yi Sheng Leather, plus an 11 MWp portfolio across 10 shopping malls. Offtakers come mainly from apparel and manufacturing.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Site selection: assessment of factory and commercial roofs for solar suitability.
- Project planning: design and permitting of rooftop systems from under 1 MWp to over 11 MWp.
- Project financing: green bonds, project debt and investor capital to fund systems.
- Construction: delivery of rooftop systems for manufacturing and retail sites.
- Operation and maintenance: long-term operation of the installed assets.
- Portfolio acquisition: purchase of existing rooftop portfolios to expand clean supply.
3. Potential application
Footwear, rubber and garment factories in southern Vietnam can host multi-megawatt rooftop systems to cut grid purchases. Shopping mall chains can supply part of their load with rooftop solar across many sites. Suppliers to global brands can use on-site solar to report lower Scope 2 emissions.
4. Benefits
Offtakers gain electricity cost savings from rooftop systems while lowering emissions. Verdant arranges the financing, including Vietnam's first certified green C&I solar bond with a 15-year tenor. The 58 MW funded by that bond is forecast to avoid about 31,000 tCO2e. One developer covers construction and long-term operation and maintenance.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Vietnam's Power Development Plan VIII and 2050 net zero target support rooftop solar for self-consumption. Apparel and manufacturing exporters face carbon requirements from global brands, while long-tenor local green finance is starting to appear, making third-party financed C&I solar more accessible.
6. Other information
Headquartered at 5 Shenton Way, Singapore, and backed by A.P. Moller Capital. In June 2026 GuarantCo guaranteed VND 792 billion (about USD 30 million) of green bonds from its Vietnamese C&I platform. It acquired a 37 MWp Thai rooftop portfolio and entered the Philippines in 2026.
