1. Technology overview
Oppstar is a Malaysian semiconductor design company founded in 2014 and listed on Bursa Malaysia's ACE Market in March 2023. It serves chip companies that need extra engineering capacity or a full partner to take a chip from specification to silicon.
It offers full turnkey ASIC and SoC design from specification to GDS plus supply chain management, alongside individual services: architecture consulting, RTL design, design verification, design for test, analog and mixed-signal design, physical design and custom layout, FPGA emulation and prototyping, and post-silicon validation. It works on process nodes from 28nm to 3nm and is developing its own edge AI IP, including a 12nm low-power AI SoC using Arm Flexible Access.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Turnkey ASIC/SoC: specification to GDS with supply chain management.
- Front-end design: architecture consulting, RTL design and design verification.
- Design for test: DFT insertion and test planning.
- Analog and mixed-signal: AMS circuit design and custom layout.
- Physical design: implementation and sign-off on 28nm to 3nm nodes.
- Validation: FPGA emulation, prototyping and post-silicon validation.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese electronics company planning its first custom chip can hand the full flow to a turnkey partner. A Vietnamese design centre can subcontract verification, DFT or physical design during peak workload. An industrial automation or robotics firm can co-develop an edge AI chip based on Oppstar's own IP.
4. Benefits
Chip companies can outsource any stage of the flow, or the whole chip, to a team of over 280 staff, many with more than 20 years of IC design experience. Experience across 28nm to 3nm nodes reduces risk on advanced projects. Turnkey delivery includes foundry engagement and supply chain management. The unbilled order book reached about RM50 million in March 2026, around 40% AI-related.
5. Market trends & opportunities
AI and edge computing are driving demand for custom silicon, while chip companies face shortages of experienced designers. Malaysia and Vietnam both target growth in front-end design, and Arm's government-backed programme in Malaysia gives local designers access to processor IP for new edge AI chips.
6. Other information
Founded in 2014 in Malaysia; listed on Bursa Malaysia ACE Market in March 2023, raising RM104.25 million. Selected as a design solution associate in Rapidus's CORE ecosystem and offered access to Arm Compute Subsystems. Partners include Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
